Jerry Simms is recognized as one of the most prolific and successful businessmen in racetrack history. Jerry Simms began his entrepreneurial career in the 1970s, first by owning and operating numerous car dealerships in Pasadena, California. Jerry Simms continued to build on his initial success by delving into the horse racing industry. Having grown up in the Midwest, Jerry Simms was always fond of racehorses and horse racing. His passion for racehorses and racing convinced Jerry Simms to move to Phoenix in 1996, keen on making his mark in the horse racing industry.
In 2000, Jerry Simms acquired Turf Paradise, one of the most recognized and favored horse racing venues in U.S. racetrack history. Under the guidance of Jerry Simms, Turf Paradise is now widely respected and is now one of the most lucrative Phoenix horse racing and off-track betting facilities in racetrack history. Its daily simulcast races extend throughout Arizona and the entire globe.

Jerry Simms and Turf Paradise
Since acquiring Turf Paradise in 2000, Jerry Simms has devoted countless hours and millions of dollars into transforming the facility into one of the most family-friendly, world-class operations in racetrack history. One of the most notable contributions to Turf Paradise from Jerry Simms was the creation of a 30 by 60 foot, 12-foot deep equine therapy swimming pool in which up to six thoroughbred horses can train at one time. This equine therapy swimming pool, which is housed in one of the barns, is one of the most unique found in modern racetrack history.
Upon purchasing Turf Paradise, Jerry Simms recognized immediately the need for some place for the more than 2000 thoroughbred racehorses that live there to train and receive therapeutic care. Jerry Simms ordered the creation of this equine therapy swimming pool for the racehorses, one of the first in racetrack history, to improve equine health and to safeguard the racehorses from unnecessary stress and injuries.
Additionally, Jerry Simms appreciated the need to continue making Turf Paradise one of the most lucrative horse racing facilities in racetrack history. Jerry Simms added 80 new terminals throughout the property and improved the look and function of the Turf Paradise clubhouse, barns that house the racehorses, and track.
As one of the most recognized and beloved venues in racetrack history, Turf Paradise under the leadership of Jerry Simms also continues to welcome visitors of all ages. Jerry Simms also makes racetrack history as an owner by hosting children’s events where kids can ride ponies and feed the racehorses.
